Star Trek:TOT -- Round Two is Finished!

All right!  I know at least a few people probably aren't done, but we've got to move on, I'm sorry. D: </3  And with that, Round Two is officially CLOSED.
For those of  you that finished, maybe with little time to spare, congratulations!
I know a lot of you didn't get to do what you'd hoped, but all I can say is live, learn, and allocate your time a bit better next time.

And next time will be in about a week, give or take, so enjoy your break!  You earned it!


Regarding how the tournament will be run from here on out!
I'll get into more specifics in the round 3 blog, but here's what I'm thinking.
TOT will NOT go into hiatus, but will instead be given one or two extra weeks.  DON'T take these weeks as 'well, I can not do anything for 2 weeks then hammer it out in the last three. >', because you saw how well THAT works this time around! (And last time, LOL.)

This next round will (more than likely) ACTUALLY contain some judging, so stick-figure rounds are over!  I want to see some good stuff here-- because I know each of you are capable of it.

Yes!  Believe it or not, it's time for Round 2!  In case you didn't guess, our 'summer event' is going to leak a liiiiittle bit into the fall. Hopefully that's okay!

*This round is the TOS TRIBUTE ROUND!  As you'll see below, all the prompts have something to do with the Original Series.  Use that, but obviously put your own spin on it, and make your character shine!*

Each round will be given 3 weeks to finish.


The round officially starts August 6th, and will go until midnight on September 3rd, Eastern Standard Time. (Basically it has to be in before I wake up and look on the 4th.)

Communications with the Group Leader are still down, so for people who are wondering, simply continue to submit your entries into the 2010 Tournament folder.  I'm going to start moving Round 1 entries from that folder into the Auditions folder, just to give some semblence of order.  If there is a problem submitting and you want to be sure, send me a link to your entry in a note. You'll be good then.

Rules of the Round

*Now that you've got a round under your belt, you should be better equipped to know your work speed, limitations, and things to work on!  Keep all that in mind as you plan.*


It is REQUIRED that all entrants include their Original Series mentor in each entry at least once.  They don't have to play an integral part of the storyline, but we have to see them somewhere.
The Secondary Command Officers don't need to be included-- they are completely optional. Including your teammates is ALSO OPTIONAL.  It isn't required to interact with them at all-- it would just be nice.
Your entry must be in ART/COMIC FORM.  No written entries will be accepted!  Consider this when planning ahead!  I'm sure you've got the idea by now, but you never know.
Follow the prompt.  It will not be written in stone, but there will be certain goals to accomplish/things you have to put in the story, so make sure you've got all your details straight before you start drawing!  (As always, note me if you are confused in ANY WAY.  This will be the fastest way to ensure I get to your question in a timely manner.  I stalk DA ALL. THE. TIME.)
Your entry must be at least 1 page long.  (Duh.)  Longer is probably better, but hey, if you think you can get everything down in one, I won't complain.  There's no need for a 20-page full-CG entry, though-- this isn't a graphic novel, just a tournament.
All other rules apply-- be nice, courteous, and helpful.  No whining, complaining, or flaming other competitors.  Or anyone for that matter.  It's not nice!

HEY YOU GAIS.  As if there wasn't enough for you to do, I was bored and thought of an idea.
Star Trek: The Original Tournament Banner Contest! 8D
It's just a stupid little contest I came up with to fill in any boredom anybody might have.  (Y'know, in between rounds, art trades, fanart, real life, etc.)
Basically you design a banner for ST:TOT, send me a link or post a link on my page, and I'll choose my favorite to post in the blog for the Tournament Finale.
It can be plain text with fancy stuff done to it, it can include characters... basically anything goes.
This is open until the end of round four.   So if you've got nothing better to do, have at it!
(Oh, right, and I'll also take a free comission from the winner for some sort of *relatively* simple piece.  As if interwebz fame wasn't enough.)

The General Setting of the Tournament:
Your character, through intelligence, compassion, wit, species, or pure dumb luck, has been chosen for a special mission.
They've been contacted by their superiors at Starfleet Academy and told that they are part of a program that is designed to push certain, special Cadets to the limit, and to put them on a fast-track through their careers.
They are VERY LUCKY.
They are given a packet with their ships assignment, and before they know it they are being shuttled out into space, the envious glances of their fellow students receding in the distance, and their new ship comes into view.
Through some twist of luck, they have suddenly found themselves promoted to the rank of 'Ensign', and serving aboard a ship with one of the members of the U.S.S. Enterprise, a ship all of them have heard about as the Flagship of the Federation.
What they make of themselves from this point on is their own choice.


The Prompts

Two months have gone by since the hectic incidents following your character's experiences during their star-mapping mission.  A few people have gone missing, and a few people have died, but it happens.  Life on your starship goes on as normal-- reports to file, duties to perform, and a ship to fly.

Thanks to their exceptional performance during the aforementioned incident, your character has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade.  (Congrats, you!)

And then something happens, and once again things get weird.

Team One
Like in the episode 'The Deadly Years', you're going to age.  The details, the cure, and your character's part in the above are all up to you.  Does the entire crew age, or is your character the only one afflicted?  Will you continue to age until death, or only to a certain point?  How fast or how slow the effects take hold are also your choice.

Team Two
Tribbles, Tribbles, Tribbles!  What sort of trouble will these furry creatures get into next?  I don't know, but I sure hope you'll tell me.   Your prompt, like in the episode 'The Trouble With Tribbles', has to do with the little guys.  Don't let them clog up the ship! (Or do, I don't care. xD)

Team Three
The notorious space trader Harry Mudd is in town!  (Or your corner of space.)  This trickster from 'Mudd's Women' and 'I, Mudd' is going to give your ship a lot of grief.  What's he up to this time?  And how are you going to keep him out of trouble?  (Or fix the trouble he's already made!)

Team Four
In the Animated Series Episode 'The Counter-Clock Incident', the crew gradually got younger, and that's what's happening to you!  Unlike Team One, you will feel the reversal of time.  How far it goes is up to you, how it happened, and more importantly, how you fix it!  Will only your character be affected, a few people, or the whole ship?

Team Five
Unexpectedly, Team Five is suddenly whisked away to Triskelion, a planet previously visited by several of the Enterprise crew in 'The Gamesters of Triskelion'.  Apparently bored with their promise to Kirk, they're at it again!  Whether your crew attempts to keep them from kidnapping aliens, attempts to save alien's already imprisoned, or are imprisoned themselves, is up to you!  And how they get out of their predicament...

Team Six
Mirror mirror on the wall... Oh, wait.  Just 'Mirror Mirror'.  As when Kirk's unfortunate away team experienced in, Team Six (or at least your character) is somehow transported to the Mirror Universe!  Obviously they have to get back, because I hear that place is bloodthirsty... And full of your own alter-ego friends!

Team Seven
Ah, time travel.  A staple of science fiction everywhere.  Your character must use the Guardian of Forever in this prompt!  Like the episode 'The City on the Edge of Forever', your character, a team with your character in it, or even your entire ship, must somehow use this Guardian of time in your storyline.  What happens is up to you!


If you have any questions, feel free to message me!  Still, I hope it isn't too difficult to figure out.  Use your imagination, and feel free to stretch the scenarios if you have an idea. Although you're free to show your teammates, don't forget that the star of the show should be your own character, doing whatever they must to help the situation.  Your entry doesn't have to match up with anyone else's at all-- each and every one of you has your own canon.
